The Herb Patch was started in 1999 by David and Lynda Potts in our garden. It was a small business growing a range of common and unusual herb plants. Ever since the beginning we have used peat free compost for our plants, and do not use any fertilisers or pesticides.
We initially sold our plants at local farmers markets and shows. In 2003 we opened our expanded nursery to the public along with a tearoom and shop, in purpose built buildings which replaced some old farm buildings behind our house. We now sell our plants at the nursery and by mail order. We do not currently attend farmers markets or shows, but that may yet change.
Our popular tearoom offers a range of home baked fayre, and a dish of the day is available every day. With its rural setting, friendly service and views of both the Derwent Valley and our own herb garden, it is often described as a ‘haven’ or a ‘home from home’
The smallholding is also home to an eclectic collection of friendly ducks, hens and other animals including a small flock of Jacob sheep. Pest control is taken care of by the three family cats – Rusty (senior cat), Raffey (lazy cat) and Fizz ( scaredy cat).
We hope you can call in soon to see us.
