Sadly we have had to close our Tea Room at The Herb Patch. We are now no longer open to the public. Plants can be bought by mail order, although orders may be collected by special arrangement.

Our Autumn Plant Sale is on now

Did you know Autumn is a good time for planting perennial herbs. Plants establish well in the moister soil conditions, assisted by cooler temperatures. Plants will then be ready to grow away rapidly in the spring.

Corsican Mint

Corsican Mint is available again at The Herb Patch

We have been without this little gem for a while, but it is available again now at the nursery, and will be available again online soon.

Corsican mint is a tiny leaved, very low growing member of the mint family. When planted beside a path it release a delightful minty scent when walked on. Tiny mauve flowers in summer. Makes a good ground cover herb for a damp location. Can be used in the kitchen giving a strong minty flavour to dishes, and is most famously used as flavouring in ‘Creme de Menthe’. Can be used as a companion plant to brassica plants in the veg garden as the scent will help repel some pests.

Vipers Bugloss

Also known as Blueweed

Vipers Bugloss is a very attractive herb /wildflower found on disturbed dry soils on dunes, shingle, cliffs and open grassland throughout the UK and is in full flower now(July)
Viper’s-bugloss is a biennial plant producing a rosette of hairy, strap-like leaves in the first year. In the second year tall, upright, hairy stems arise in June, covered with clusters of pink flower buds. As these uncurl into dark purplish-blue funnel-shaped flowers they offer nectar and pollen to bumble bees, making it one of their favourite flowers. It also proves to be a nectar magnet for butterflies and moths. This is an attractive plant for the herbaceous garden or naturalisation in a meadow.
Plant it in a dry, sunny position in well-drained or sandy soils.
The name bugloss is of Greek origin, from a word signifying an ox’s tongue, and alluding to the roughness and shape of the plant’s leaves. The viper part of the name may derive from the spotted stem, said to recall marks on a snake, or an imagined resemblance between the dead flower-head and the head of a snake

Traditionally grown as a medicinal herb, it was used to expel poisons and venom, it is now mainly grown for its ability to attract bees and butterflies.

Tapas Night

‘Tapas Night’ at The Herb Patch – Friday 17th June

Why not come along and enjoy an evening of ‘Spanish style’ dining in the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of our Tea Room.

You will be served with a selection of dishes with a Spanish theme, such as Spinach and Feta Empanadillas or Salmon in Mojo sauce.

Full menu coming soon.

Cake and Create update

Our recent Cake and Create night was enjoyed by several of our regular customers. Crafts included drawing, knitting, proggy mat making and needlework. The first half of the evening saw a lively conversation between the girls, however this came to a halt when the soup was served. Two different homemade soups were on offer, with the popular one being the Tomato and Red Pepper. Cakes served afterwards included Apple Cake with Cinnamon and Chocolate Brownie.

Cake and Create is held every third Thursday of the month from 6.30 – 9.00pm. in tea-room at The Herb Patch .Next evening is on Thurs 16th June. Why not come along and join us. Put a note in your diary, or on your mobile phone to remind you nearer the time.
